  • i wanted to draw something far from the stereotypical genie, so i did a little research about "granting wishes creatures"( i think thats how i searched it).
    First theres a cow that grant wishes in india, i think is khudala(im not sure about the name), the veil, necklace, and the decoration on the horn comes from that, i like the djin shoes, a friend told me that kappa´s grant wishes, she have a little plate with water in the saddle, i think is cute she is carring that,i thought about adding a cucumber, kappa´s like cucumbers, kappa´s are nice, also i think kitsune´s grant wishes if you steal something from them, steal is bad, so, just added the tails.

I also have to move on to another project that'll hopefully turn out good enough to give as a gift to my host family!!! Seeing it here I can definitely tell where I've got to improve, and where I could put in more defined ares instead of just swishing the brush everywhere for accents... But I like :)

  • India brought today's newspaper to Jasmine face at 6:30 pm.
    "What is this?" Jasmine said as she took the paper from her friend's hands and read it for herself.   At Shock Therpy Stable, the owner was selling puppys.  Jasmine brought her pink eyes back up to India's green ones.  "Now I don't suppose you showed me this so we can get another puppy?"
    "The stable is reliable and a specialized breeder, the pups are cheap, and I want a challenge," said Jasmine with a straight face, but in her eyes, anyone can see the excitement that was seemingly growing by the second.
    "Fine, get the keys."

    They got to the stable 30 minutes before it closed.  Jasmine and India walked up to the barn house and knocked.  A man in his late 30s opened the door and greeted us.  The scars on his face obvious to everyone warned them not to mess with him.  "Can I help you?"  He asked.  His voice slightly gruff, but still powerful.
    "Um, Hi, my name is Jasmine, and this is my co-worker India" said Jasmine, trying not to stare.
    "My name is Skol,"  He looked from one girl to the other and shifted his weight from one foot to the other, in inpactiance.
    "We saw your ad in the paper and came to see the Douge Mouton puppys.  Can we have a look at them?" ask India in a straightforward and annoying tone.  Jasmine looked at her, scared that if they said the wrong thing, this Skol guy can kick their ass.
    "Ah, the pups,"  He walked out of the barn house, closing the door behind him.  He walked off the porch and walked away, "Follow me."

    Jasmine looked at India, scared crap-less.  The bag of treats and toys in her hand was shaking.   When they entered the puppy barn, they took a good look at the pups.   2 of them, both fawn colored female, wore a black colors, the rest, 4 boys and 2 girls, were colarless.  The one that caught India's eye was the biggest pup.  Hs e was liver with red points.  "Ah.  She is a stubborn little one.  Gets that from her mom, but she is also prideful, like her dad." He chuckled a bit.
    "Can we play with her for a bit?" India asked, not letting her eyes drift from the puppy.
    "Sure can,"  he pointed to a distant stall, "that stall over there is free and there are some small grassy patches if you would like.

    India picked up the pup.  She was heavier than she led on.  She was almost as big as Jasmine's torso.  They walked to the stall and put her down.  They put the pup down, hearing a loud thud when she hit the ground.  The puppy looked around and then saw the rope toy in India's hands and wagged her tail happily making loud barks and yips as she jumped to get it out of her hands.

  • I was crying while I drew this, I really was. Images inspired by Pati Sokol's brilliant cover of the Kate Bush classic, This Woman's Work: [link]
    Also, my friend wrote a short story for the first Page: [link]

    “Viv, I have told you many times not to interfere with what I am doing. What don’t you fucking understand?”
    Vivian stood in their shared apartment terrified. She was in love with Nathaniel but also extremely frightened. His shaggy black hair was sticking to his forehead due to the sweat that was beginning to form on his head. He was pissed.
    Vivian combed played with the hem of her shirt. She didn’t want Nathaniel to be upset. She was trying to help him.
    “I-I-I wanted to help you. I am tired of you having to go under all these aliases. I just want Nathaniel. My Nathaniel. The man I fell in love with two years ago. Before all this bullshit happened.”
    Vivian was shocked by this burst of confidence that had just come up. She gave herself a mental pat on the back.
    Nathaniel was stunned as well with Vivian’s outburst. His hand immediately came in contact to her cheek. The impact caused Vivian to step back. Her hand went to her cheek to soothe the pain and tears began to form in her eyes.
    Nathaniel’s hands were balled into fists. His breathing became heavy.
    This was not the first time Nathaniel had hit her.
    Vivian could not handle it anymore. She turned around and walked quickly towards the bedroom. She wanted to get away from the abuse and hectic life. She opened the closet door, looking for some sort of duffel bag to put her clothes in. The stinging of the slap was still on her skin. She put her hand to her cheek and her vision began to blur. She sniffled and continued to search for a bag. She gave up on searching and grabbed a handful of clothes from her side of the closet and put it inside a plastic bag she found on the floor of the bedroom.
    She gathered her things quickly and left her bedroom. Nathaniel was sitting on the couch with a bottle of Jack Daniels in his hand. Vivian looked at him with her hazel eyes. Tears began to form again. Nathaniel took a giant swig and just sat there idly. Vivian’s heart broke into pieces seeing that Nathaniel made no effort to convince her to stay.
    She walked to her door and said goodbye to her old life.
    ~~~~3 years later~~~~
    “Excuse me miss. Can I have one more cup of coffee?”
    Vivian brought the coffee pot towards the waiting customer.
    “Is there anything else you would like?” Vivian’s delicate voice brought a sense of serenity to the busy diner.
    Vivian was doing well after her departure with Nathaniel. The first year after her breakup was difficult. She would crash at her friend’s house never going into detail as to why she broke up with Nathaniel. Many times she wanted to just call to check if he was okay, but she knew he never had one permanent number.
    After her one year she decided on moving to a different location. Start her life all over. Forgetting about the past. She stumbled upon a diner in Michigan and decided to give it a go. Vivian was successful when she lived in Washington. She graduated with a master’s degree, but the corporate life was something she was never interested in.
    “No, I think that is everything, but may I ask your name?”
    Vivian was a bit shocked. She never had someone ask for her name. She was used to some men flirting with her and trying to sleep with her, but no one was ever polite and just asked for her name.
    “Vivian.”
    Vivian and the customer, whom she later found out was named Levi, talked for about five minutes when something caught Vivian’s attention. She saw a man sitting at the bar of the diner. He was hunched over with distressed coat on. He had jet black hair. Vivian shook her head. She knew there was no way that was Nathaniel.
    Curiosity got the best of her and she told Levi she would be right back. Vivian walked over to the stranger with her shoulders back but she was still nervous.
    “Would you like some coffee, sir?”
    The man turned around. His face was sunken in. He had dark bags around his eyes and bandage on his nose.
    Vivian dropped her pot of coffee. It was him. Her heart fluttered. She knew she was still in love with him but never wanted to admit it. Her hands flew over her mouth. She still couldn’t believe it.
    “Hi.” A weak smile appeared on Nathaniel’s face.
    Pray God you can cope.
    I stand outside this woman's work,
    This woman's world.
    Ooh, it's hard on the man,
    Now his part is over.
    Now starts the craft of the father.
    I know you have a little life in you yet.
    I know you have a lot of strength left.
    I know you have a little life in you yet.
    I know you have a lot of strength left.
    I should be crying, but I just can't let it show.
    I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking
    Of all the things I should've said,
    That I never said.
    All the things we should've done,
    That we never did.
    All the things I should've given,
    But I didn't.
    Oh, darling, make it go,
    Make it go away.
    Give me these moments back.
    Give them back to me.
    Give me that little kiss.
    Give me your hand.
  • Railway Locomotive Profile: Indian Railways British Engineering Standards Association Heavy Passenger 4-6-0 Steam Locomotive
    Built: 1905 to 1950
    Builders: North British Locomotive Company, Vulcan Foundry, Robert Stephenson & Company, Kitson & Company, William Beardmore & Company
    The British resolved to make up for the different gauges that made up the Indian Railways by designing standard railway locomotives to run the trains across the Indian Subcontinent. For the broad gauge lines there was this Heavy Passenger engine used to haul the mail and express trains, including the Imperial Indian Mail from Bombay to Calcutta. They worked diligently and capably for at least 80 years during their lives on the railways, and due to the dissatisfaction of larger and more powerful engines remained in service. They were extremely handsome locomotives, as they were even more British than any locomotive that ran in England who also built the Indian Railways. The image of the engine was based on a 4-6-0 locomotive built by North British for the Glasgow & South Western Railway in 1903. A very distinguishable feature of this engine, as well as of every other Indian Railways steam engine, was the tender cab to provide extra shelter from the elements, as well as give an extra aesthetic result. Cowcatchers attached to the buffer beams were also a prominent device upon these engines more commonly found on North American steam locomotives. The earliest built engines had inside slide valves, internal Stephenson valve gears, and no superheating. Later these engines were converted to be like the latter examples built that had superheating, outside piston valves, and external Walschaert valve gears. The boilers had Belpaire fireboxes. The engines could still be found pulling passenger trains during the 1980s, and by about 2000 the age of steam had ended in India. Trains are very much important to public transport in India, and now they have been taken over by diesels and electric locomotives. But many a railway enthusiast, like myself, begs to one day see this engine magnificently performing once again, pulling an express passenger train across the countryside at full steam.
    A wizard's staff has a knob on the end, knob on the end, knob on the end
    A wizard's staff has a knob on the ennndddd!
    What he does with it is magic!
    A wizard's staff has a knob on the end
    And runes run up the shaft
    It's long and proud and stiff and loud
    It's the pride of wizardcraft.
    A wizard's staff has a knob on the end, knob on the end, knob on the end
    A wizard's staff has a knob on the ennndddd! /What he does with it is magic!
    A wizard's staff has a knob on the end
    Some are made from thinking wood
    With a sapient pair you'd be out to there
    And you'd go blind, yes you would.
    A wizard's staff has a knob on the end, knob on the end, knob on the end
    A wizard's staff has a knob on the ennndddd!
    What he does with it is magic!
    A wizard's staff has a knob on the end
    That looks like a silver nut
    If you start to bleat when he's taken your seat
    He'll crack it up your butt.
    A wizard's staff has a knob on the end, knob on the end, knob on the end
    A wizard's staff has a knob on the ennndddd!
    What he does with it is magic!
    A wizard's staff has a knob on the end
    And the odd frog knows it's true
    When your staff has a bend then the spell you send
    Can fly right back at you.
    A wizard's staff has a knob on the end, knob on the end, knob on the end
    A wizard's staff has a knob on the ennndddd!
    What he does with it is magic!
    A wizard's staff has a knob on the end
    Most useful if they knew it
    It's just that a fem isn't magical to them
    So they never ever do it.
    A wizard's staff has a knob on the end, knob on the end, knob on the end
    A wizard's staff has a knob on the ennndddd!
    What he does with it is magic!
    (last verse maestro please)
    A wizard's staff has a knob on the end
    And you may think it's tragic
    That no matter how strong or thick or long
    All he can do with it is magic.
    A wizard's staff has a knob on the end, knob on the end, knob on the end
    A wizard's staff has a knob on the ennndddd!
    What he does with it is magic!
  • Well, this is the third time I've approached the subject, only this time it's not a sketch card but a whopping 11x17 piece, and I used a whole slew of media on it -- COPIC markers, acrylics, colored pencil, india ink, white ink, masking fluid, graphite, and probably a couple of other things I'm forgetting.
    The client collects Batman on a gargoyle as his theme, and having looked at his CAF gallery, MAN. I had to do everything I could to just try to not embarrass myself being in the same gallery. SERIOUSLY. So anyway, he told me to just run with it, so without going beyond what he paid me for (multiple characters, greyscale copics, simple background, if interested) I came up with this.
    And what is this, exactly? Well, the main things I wanted to accomplish was to present a number of different textures, and play around with depth of field.
    Both of which I think I accomplished pretty well, with all of the cloth and stone and fur and everything in between. I also tried to pull together about 4 leayers of field depth, and I think I pulled out three well, so success there. It's all in how you use detail and blacks (or cool greys as the case may be).
    Compositionally your eye would nomally be drawn to the bat-oni-gargoyle head or the larger bat, but I'm trying to use a couple of tricks to move you more towards Batman, and then down to the foreground, so I'm trying to focus your attention first on the mid-field. The most obvious trick here is that Bats, in a dark piece is surrounded by white- the Bat Signal and the lightning. Also, I'm forcing an upper right to lower-left composition (which is also unusual). This prioritizes things in your mind in that order, so you move your eyes over Batman before you see the little rodents. Maybe I overthink these things. :)
    Anyway, voila! A Heroes Con 2013 commission.
